How planet types work in EVE Online

Planetary industry starts with the planet: an extractor pulls one of fifteen raw P0 materials, and which ones are available depends entirely on the planet type. There are eight types and every one of them yields exactly five raw materials, but the sets overlap, so a resource can be common or nearly exclusive.

Why the overlap matters

Aqueous Liquids come off six planet types out of eight, so an extractor for them fits almost anywhere. Felsic Magma comes off Lava and nothing else, which means a chain that needs it is tied to finding a Lava planet in range. The «Planets» column is exactly that number — sort by it to see which materials will constrain where your colonies can sit.

From raw material to product

Raw materials are only the first step: each one is refined into P1 and further up to P4. The schematics table shows every recipe with live margins, and the planetary industry guide explains how customs tax and freight eat into the profit.
